History of the Urban Insurance Agency

The Urban Insurance Agency was established in 1965 by Clem Urban, a renown, local teacher who started his insurance career as a part-time agent for Erie Insurance Exchange, so as not to interfere with his teaching. Over the years, the agency became a family-run venture as Clem was joined by his wife, Jeanne, and later by his son, Chris, who took over the agency upon Clem’s retirement in 1996. Urban was primarily a personal lines book of business.

Planning to retire himself in early 2013, Chris reached out to Rossbacher Insurance Service when faced with the need to perpetuate the agency that his family worked so hard to build. From his ownership transition letter sent to his customers in April of 2013, Chris said, “I chose Rossbacher over other options because of the level of trust my father and I have developed with their ownership team over many years of working together, side by side. One of their agency principals was our agency’s former District Sales Manager with Erie Insurance, dating back to 1994. Simply put, they offer the best guarantee to continue the agency in a path consistent with its past for you, our valued and loyal clients.”

The formal purchase of the Urban Agency was finalized by Rossbacher on April 1, 2013. Later in 2014, Rossbacher also purchased the neighboring Seneca Insurance and Full Service Notary. To take advantage of synergies and better serve their customers, the Urban and Seneca agencies were combined under one roof in June of 2014.

Rossbacher is very proud of the heritage of its partner agencies.
